Continuing into the 5th week of his "Take Back the Future" series at http://www.fusionatl.org/p/12081/Default.aspx, Johnson Bowie opens by recapping the lessons up to this point. "I hope you have Jesus cologne," says Bowie, "and that you carry it around everywhere with you." The haunting question for many people is, "okay, I work 9 to 5 on a computer, at McDonalds, at a pharmacy...What am I doing in life? What is my purpose? How can I contribute anything to further the Kingdom?" Johnson says he is determined to bust through the lie that people think they can't change the world. He reminds us that the creator of the universe is inside of us. The man of Jesus, who changed the world more than any other person alive, is inside us!! To God, it doesn't matter what we achieve on our own or independent of him. The Truth is that "the guy who changes the guy who changes the world is still the guy who changes the world!!" Johnson says that what he does, often, is drive or walk around and see a person and wonder what their story is. Who is their dad? What happened to them in the last week? The bag boy or the order taker has a story. They all have stories, histories and secrets. For instance, who was Martin Luther King's father? Why aren't their books written about him? Truly, he was a hero in his own right. Thomas Edison's most influential person in his life was his mother. In April, 1885, a Sunday school teacher named Edward Kimble was just doing what he normally did. He would go around neighborhoods and talk to them about Jesus. He went into a shoe store one day and shared with Dwight L Moody, who obviously grew to become a great Evangelist. But it didn't stop there. In the 1800's, Moody personally discipled J Wilbur Chapman, a great evangelist of his time, who discipled Billy Sunday who evangelized to more people during the 1900's than anybody up to that point in history. Then, in 1924, Sunday evangelized to a group of business men, who decided to hold events in Charlotte, NC, that would host Mortiki Ham, who in 1934 would be a witness to a young man by the name of Billy Graham!! But if you Google the name Edward Kimble, he's nowhere!! The only place this guy is found, is in the story of Billy Graham, but he was the spiritual torch carrier for the salvation of millions of lives. We all know about Elijah, Peter, John and Paul. You know, the guy who gets millions of pages of references. But what about the guy who gets a sentence or one paragraph? What about Anna? Jesus' parents take him to a Temple where there was this prophetess, Anna. She was someone who prayed day and night, serving for decades in the Temple. When she sees the child Jesus, she came up to them and gave thanks, shouting to all around about who he was to become. That's it. That's her role in history and it was enough. In Mark 5, Jesus crosses into Galilee with his disciples into the land of the Gadarenes. He casts out demons from a guy, into a herd of 2,000 pigs and all the pigs run off a cliff. The people of the land ask Jesus to leave the country. But then, this guy who was freed from the demons asks Jesus if he can come with him. Jesus says no, but to go tell his family about what has happened. That's it again. We never hear from him again. But this guy must have been a pretty good missionary because when you fast forward to where Jesus returns later to this country, Decapolis, (he'd just been kicked out!) the people are waiting for him. In fact, the early church was strongest many times was strongest in Decapolis. But we never hear about this guy again. There's a story about how Jesus is on his way to be crucified and he's carrying his cross, but unable to bear the weight. They find a guy in Matthew 27:32 named Simon of Cyrene who help Christ carry the cross of redemption!! What an honor, but we never hear about Simon again. It is said that he was the first missionary back to his country in Africa. We don't know...But he plays this insignificantly vital part in the story. About 2 years ago, Johnson was in the lobby after a Fusion night and he says he hears God whisper, "Would it be okay if you never got big? Would it be okay if you never had a church of thousands? Would it be okay if you are just the guy who changes the guy who changes the world?" Johnson's answer was "No" because he honestly says that he wants to be the guy who does big things for God. "Do you know why?", says Johnson, "because I want to do great things for God FOR ME." Because of his own pride, he says, that was his answer. But some time later, when he hears this same question from God, his answer was a disinflated, but humorous, "yes, Lord, I will go wherever you want me to go. I will be a loser for Jesus." Our goal should not be to somebody else, our goal should be to do what God wants us to do and to be the person He commands of us. We are part of a body, the body of Christ, as in 1 Corinthians. No part is more important than another. If one part hurts, the whole body hurts. If one part is honored, the whole body is honored. We can't all be the face guy. Each of us has been created, with our own talents and calling, to fulfill our purpose in Christ. If we don't think our decisions matter, we will live a life that doesn't matter. But we have no idea how far the ripples of our decisions will go! Live like every decision we make matters. We don't know that if we had stopped to help a guy change a tire that we had a chance to change the guy who changes the world. It will not be our efforts, but God's that ultimately makes the seed grow as in 1 Corinthians 3:5,6. Jesus just might ask us, "where were you when I was thirsty?" Our nature is to want to be the greatest, like in Matthew 22:17, when a mother asks Jesus if her sons can sit on his right and on his left. But Jesus responds saying that the least shall be the greatest. In 1922, a 12 year old girl named Agnes, gave up her life and moved to India. Her name became known as Mother Theresa and she said "We can do no great things, but only small things with great love." It's not how much we do, but it's how much love we put into doing it. Mother Theresa also said, "if you can't feed 100 people, then just feed 1." In Matthew 20:30, two blind men are calling out to him while others are telling them to be quiet. Jesus stops. He asks them what they want and they ask to have their sight. So, he does a small thing (for Jesus). He heals them. Can we stop? Can we do a small thing for the world? It's only one person at a time. Go, and be and Edward Kimble. In the words of Mother Theresa again, "We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean, but the ocean would be less because of that missing drop."
