In a bold move (what's new with him, right?), Perry dives headlong into the topic of sex by interviewing people on the street at http://www.newspring.cc/. In the first of his "You Asked For It" series, he asks passers-by to comment on sex outside of marriage, oral sex, homosexuality, swinging and masturbation. In order to determine the Biblical view on sexuality, we have to answer 3 questions. 1) "Are we trying to please ourselves or God?" In 1 Thess 4:1, we understand that, as Christ followers, we are living lives to please God, not our selves. God instructs us. The clincher in Thessalonians is verse 3, "It is God's Will that you should be sanctified and that you should avoid sexual immorality." Perry talks about how he has struggled with his weight for years. What he had to walk away from were things he craved so that he could get his body to a point where he was satisfied. The same is true about sex. The greek word for sexual immorality is "Pornia". Some people say the Bible says nothing about pornography, but the word was actually taken from the Greek word used here! The reason God addresses sexual sin is because there is no greater sin than sexual sin that can destroy God's work in you. 2) "Do I believe in any lies about sex?" Jesus is talking to some religious leaders and says some piercing things to them in John 8:44. In this verse, he refers to Satan as the father of lies. Having said that, Perry thought it wise to ask Satan himself what he thought about sex. The lights go down and, on the screen appears the comical devil we've seen from past sermons. "Oral sex isn't a sin..it's part of the dating process...(regarding sex and living together before marriage) you wouldn't buy a car without putting some miles on it....The biggest problem with pornography is that kid's don't realize how hard it was to get this in the past. You used to have to work at it...Masturbation never hurt anyone...You really want to be locked down with one person when there's 6 billion people in the world?.... (homosexuality) Leaves more chicks for the rest of us. Right?" Perry says that the sad part about this comedy stretch is that many of us have said the same things ourselves. Continuing in 1 Thess 4:4, "That each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable." Being dangerously honest, Perry says the toughest sin he struggles with is in the area of sex. He puts safety stops in his life in order to learn to control. He never travels alone with someone of the opposite sex and he never erases the History of his computer. In verse 6, it talks about how no man should defraud a brother in any matter because the Lord is the avenger of all such. Let's look at the lies about sex. A) Oral sex isn't sex outside of marriage. Without breaking this down biblically, Perry talks about why oral sex doesn't make sense. He gives a couple of hypotheticals where he turns the appeal of oral sex on its head. Someone told him to let everyone know that oral sex is wrong in marriage, but Perry points out that in Hebrews 13, it says the marriage bed is undefiled. For those who can't believe he's talking about oral sex, he points out the verses in Song of Solomon where a woman says "come blow on my garden and taste its choice fruits". He says she's not referring to the garden outside!! B) "There's nothing wrong with masturbation." Is it wrong? Well, the core of the sin of masturbation is pleasing yourself. What's more, you cannot masturbate without lusting. C) "Homosexuality is no big deal." The Bible condemns the sin. In fact, the Bible says its an abomination. D) "Looking is not a sin." Jesus says that when we look, we commit adultery. Later in Matthew, Jesus even says it would be better to cut off a body part than to condemn the whole body. In 2 Corinthians 10, it says we are to take captive our thoughts unto the obedience of Christ. From here, Perry gets to a heart to heart with the women who dress to attract the looks of men. E) "Swinging will improve my marriage." There's a new TV show called "Swing Time" which will be a show about trading sex partners in a marriage! What a lie the world is listening to. Woman are the most complicating creatures on the planet. If a man pursues his wife the way he should pursue her, she will be happy. 3) "Am I knowingly rejecting God's instructions?" In 1 Thess 4:7, God calls us not to uncleanliness, but to holiness. Perry talks about how her little girl, Karis, was upstairs messing with the diaper genie. He changed her and realized the genie was full. He empties the genie tube and then looks over as Karis is trying to pick up the diaper tube. Perry said, "You can't pick up your mess, Karis." The Holy Spirit whispered to Perry, "That's why I sent my son, Jesus." In 1 Corinthians 6:11, there is a long list of people who will not go to heaven. But it talks about how we are washed, sanctified and justified in the name of Jesus. We cannot live in our old bodies, but we have to strive for who we are anew in Christ!
