The Satisfied and Effective Believer
One of the best ways to grow as a Christian is to get involved in what God is doing. The question is in what ministry? In what capacity?
Take a look around and look inside... Every person is unique and God has gifted every believer with specific motivations and passions to use for Him and His Kingdom.
The simple reality is that those who are engaged in the activities are filled with more joy, and their lives and souls are enriched not only by the Word but the result of the Word expressed in the lives of those around them. There is joy in serving and exercising our giftedness.
IT is God who has gifted us (1 Cor. 7:7) to serve Him. Just as Paul urged Timothy, we should not neglect our giftedness (1 Tim. 4:14). We should use our gifts to serve others (Gal. 5:18) and glorify God. We should find a specific ministry where we fit best to serve the Lord.
Many believers desire personal satisfaction and growth, but sadly many in the church are still wandering, not so near to Jesus and no so engaged in ministry.
Just as Paul writes the church in Corinth, you will find that using your gifts in service
to others will give you fulfillment and fruitfulness in ministry. The satisfied believer is not the one who does the most ministry; they are not the one who follows all of the 'rules'. -- The believer is satisfied when he or she lives a missional life and allows the Lord to live His life in and through them (Gal. 2:20).
Don't wait for anyone to ask you to get involved. Start now, learn more about the gifts and consider the way in which your giftedness, strengths, and skills can be dedicated to the participate with God.
Remember, one gift is no better than another; nor is one behavioral style better than another. God uses all types of people, sinners and saints to fulfill his purposes.
There is an important part of serving that is often forgotten. It is serving with LOVE. (1 Cor. 13:1-3). For the full effect, be sure that when you serve you are not motivated by personal desires except the desire to participate with God - allowing God to walk with you (abide in Christ) and move through you.
So many people are serving outside their giftedness. It shows in the burnout rate of volunteers and in their energy.
c.f.: Romans 12:3-8, Ephesians 4:11-12, 1 Corinthians 12:8-28, and 1 Corinthians 14:1-3.
