I heard a preacher come on the TV Sunday morning and he was talking about this verse. I was struck by my memory of previous revelations God has given me about Faith being "the substance" of things hoped for. I thought about how "substance" means that you really have something real or weighty. This is almost the opposite of what people usually refer to as 'faith". Faith is usually something that you are just hoping for but not really sure whether it will happen or not. This word seems to require a revelation from God that what is being hoped for will come to pass. The next word is "evidence". Evidence is what we use in a court of law to prove that something is real. How can faith be evidence? Ask God's spirit what he would say to you about that. Once again the opposite of what most people think of when it comes to faith. I often hear people say you can't prove certain things so you just have to have faith. But Hebrews 11:6 seems to being saying that true God inspired faith is not hoping like men do when they cross their fingers together. But this type of faith is filled with "substance' and "evidence" of things not seen. Wow God's ways are certainly not ours. Lord reveal to me this kind of faith that can allow me to walk boldly in confidence that you will provide. How often are the things I am hoping for unseen but yet needed. I trust that you will reveal your word to me and all those reading these words.
