Well it seems odd that God would want to come and kill Moses, especially since He had just empowered him and instructed Moses to go. But perhaps it had something to do with the idea, "Do what I say, not what I do." Zipporah saves her husband by fulfilling one of Hebrew traditions of circumcision, perhaps Moses was not quite ready to be going afterall, but in all haste Moses got up and went without preparing himself, nor his family to be the representatives of God to an entire nation and to some powerful politcal figures.
