Jesus teaches from a boat on the lake to people on the shore. He taught with parables:

1. Parable of the Sower- a farmer spreads seed: some on the path, where the birds ate them, some on the rocks, where the sun scorched them, some in the thorns, where they were tangled and choked. But others landed in good soil where they grew strong. He explains that the seeds on the path is like people who receive the Word and are immediately swallowed up by Satan. The seed on the rocks are like those who receive the Word with great joy, but shrivel up because they have no root on which to fall back. The seeds in the thorns are like people who hear the Word, but are so concerned with the things of the world that the Word is choked out and is fruitless. But others are like the seeds thrown into good soil, who grow up to be strong, producing a great crop.

2. A Lamp on a Stand- Jesus asked: Do you cover a lamp up? No! You put it on a stand so its light will be seen.

Whoever has will be given more, whoever does not have, even what he has will be take from him. (Verse 25)

3. Parable of the Growing Seed- Jesus says the Kingdom is like a seed that grows. Though man does not understand it, it still grows. And when the grain is ripe, the harvest is taken in from the field.

Later that night, as Jesus and others were crossing the lake in a boat, a storm came up and started to toss the boat. Jesus was sleeping in the boat and His disciples came to wake Him. Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and the waves, and the storm fell silent. Then all His disciples were amazed that even the wind and the waves obeyed Him.

2. A light is not meant to be hidden
3. Though many do not believe, the Kingdom grows even so
