Jesus takes Peter, James, and John with Him up a mountain. Jesus was transfigured. The original greek word, metamorfo, simply means to change into another form, to transform, to transfigure. Christ appearance was changed and was resplendent with divine brightness on the mount of transfiguration. (studylight.org). Also appearing with Jesus were Elijah and Moses. The disciples were frightened. Then God spoke to the disciples, telling them, "This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!" (Verse 7). As they went back down the mountain, Jesus instructed them not to tell anyone what they had seen until He had risen from the dead. They did not tell anyone, but they did not know what He meant when He talked about "rising from the dead." Jesus' disciples asked about Elijah. He told them that Elijah must come before the Son of Man. Then He said that Elijah had already come and that they had done to him everything that was written about him. |||

When they returned to the other disciples, the teachers of the Law were arguing with them. A man came to Jesus and said his son was possessed and that His disciples could not drive out the demon. He called for the boy. When the demon saw Jesus, he immediately attacked the boy. The father said that the demon often throws the boy into the fire or water to drown him. He asked Jesus to heal him if He could. Jesus replied by saying, "Everything is possible for him who believes." (Verse 23). Jesus rebuked the demon and pulled him from the boy. The boy appeared dead, but Jesus grabbed him by the hand and lifted him to his feet. Jesus and His disciples went inside and they asked Him why they could not drive out the demon. Jesus tells them "this kind can come out only by prayer." In private, Jesus taught His disciples, telling them that He would be betrayed and killed by men, but He would rise three days later. But His disciples did not understand. |||

Jesus asked His disciples what they had been arguing about. But they did not want to tell Him because they had been arguing about who was the greatest. Jesus told them that in order to be first, they must be last, a servant. |||

Jesus tells His disciples that if anyone is not against them, they are for them. |||

Jesus harshly condemns anyone who causes someone else to sin. He says that if something causes you to sin, cut it out of your life. |||
