Mark 10
Pharisees asked Jesus if divorce was lawful (testing Him). Jesus responds by asking what Moses commanded them. Jesus says that God created man and woman to be united as one flesh. "...what God has joined together, let man not seperate." He says that divorcing and then remarrying is committing adultery towards the first wife. The same is true for the wife. |||
Jesus blesses the children and says that unless a person accepts the Kingdom as children, they will not enter it. |||
A man came to Jesus and asked what he must do to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus told him that he must obey the Law. The man said that he had always kept the Law. Jesus then told him that he must sell all he had and give to the poor then come and follow Him. The man went away sad because he was very rich. Jesus asked His disciples how hard it was for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus says that it is easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to come into the Kingdom. In verse 27, Jesus says, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God." Then Jesus tells His disciples that anyone who has left his home, family, etc for Him or the gospel will receive 100 times the reward in the present age and in the ages to come. |||
On their way to Jerusalem, Jesus told His disciples that He would be betrayed and killed. But three days later, He would rise from the dead. |||
James and John asked Jesus if they could sit at His right and left. Jesus basically tells them that in order for them to be able to do that, they must go through the same trials and torture that He does and even then it is for Him to grant to those whom the thrones were prepared for. The other ten heard their request and became upset with them. Jesus called them all together and told them not to be like the Gentiles who flaunt their power and authority. He said that whoever wanted to be first must be a servant, a slave to all. Verse 45 says, "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." |||
As Jesus was leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus, a blind man, was sitting on the road side begging. When he heard that it was Jesus, he cried out to Him, asking for mercy. Many rebuked the man, but he called out all the more. Jesus called the man to Himself. Jesus asked what the man wanted Him to do. The man replied, asking for sight. Jesus told the man that his faith had healed him. Immediately the man could see and followed Jesus on the road. |||

3. Those who sacrifice more for God will be rewarded with more.
4. Jesus tells His disciples that in order to be first, one must be last.
5. Bartimaeus healed because of his faith.
