The One Deserving/John10:1-21
Jesus is the One who deserves every bit of our allegiance and love and service and delight. It is He who made us. We are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Not only does He deserve our giving ourselves totally and completely to Him, but He is the only one that it is worth it for us to belong to. People get confused in thinking that because God blesses everyone to some extent (sun rises on evil and good…) that the decision to walk with Christ is one way to find a kind of good life, but there are many ways. We misunderstand how dangerous our allegiance can be. We are not choosing between a couple of good decisions. We are choosing between destruction and healing, between life and missing out, between peace and turmoil, between confidence and fear.
I can hear Jesus pleading the the Scribes and Pharisees in these words. "Please listen to the voice of God in what I say. You could hear and find safe pasture. Come to me, take my yoke upon you. It's not as heavy as the one you bear."
As amazing as any other part of this is that Jesus does everything that is needed to provide for us, to keep us safe to guide us, and to make us what we're supposed to be. The Good Shepherd puts the sheep before himself. The One who opened blind eyes pledged Himself let us know Him like he knows the Father. Life of the highest order is offered to us. What'll it be?
