Luke 9:46-48 ASV

Remember playground arguments where a couple kids go back and forth about whose dad can beat up the other or who's smarter, faster, stronger than everyone else? The disciples had their own version of a playground argument, trying to decide who was "the greatest." Jesus settled it by picking the least likely candidate for greatness and holding them up as the example. That'd be like choosing teams on the playground and picking the kid who never got chosen as the first person on your team. It'd be a little surprising. The point here is that Jesus isn't honestly interested in how great you think you are. He's interested in people who are interested in Him - in believing Him, in following Him. How much better off would the American church be if it focused on Christ instead of trying to prove which denominational flavor is 'the greatest'?
