Calling is such a weird idea, to think that God would individually call out people to do specific tasks. It once again demonstrates just how personal our God is, and yet, it also demonstrates his overall greatness, to be able to know a person so intimately and design them in such a way that they fit perfectly into this specific area of time and space to do a specific "job" blows my mind! But even in these verses I wonder if calling is an adequate term to use. To me it feels like we are waking up. One of my favourite verses is found in Ephesians and it says "Wake up sleeper, rise from the dead and Christ will shine on you." When we are trying to live for our self we are dead, but when we wake up, and Christ shines on us we realize that it is not to our self we need to live, but to God! In that realization we identify the passions and the gifts, the talents and the spiritual sensitivities that make us who we are, and we acknowledge that they are from God. In so waking we realize our calling on life and should then work towards that end, because we are no longer dead. Peter and Andrew woke up one morning and look how their life changed.

Imagine you have a dream and Jesus comes and sits with you at a diner and says, "I've been taking a look at your life, and I'm really pleased so far. Based on the gifts I've given you and what I need done in the world, I think I'd like you to... a leader within the Church, specifically at this time to me it is obvious that I am to be a youth pastor, but overtime in general to be actively involved in identifying Christ in people's lives and helping them to engage in meaningful understanding and worship of the one true God.
