1Thessalonians 17-22. So often in the charismatic church, this is the scripture tossed about to justify odd and/or irresponsible behavior. But, it is dangerous and deceptive to cut and paste scripture to suit our needs or wants of the moments. We must be constantly seeking God's will and striving to know Him better so that we can walk in agreement with Him rather than squeeze him through our molds like PlayDoh (1Thes 6, 1 Thes 17). Not quenching the Spirit does not mean behave any way you feel like behaving and call it the Spirit. Not despising prophecies does not mean abandon all ability to discern, or forget what you know about God's requirements for prophecy and leadership (Deut 18:22) (Titus 1:7). Right here in this scripture alone is the warning to "Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from evil." How can we do this if we have not cultivated the ability to discern good from evil? And, how do we cultivate this if not by loving (which is obeying) God with our whole mind; part of His greatest commandment?
