"What" is man?
There have been different ideas over the centuries about how to try to figure out who we are. Notice my use of the pronoun "who". That's how we've always done it! However, this guy follows a different approach. He looks at it from the perspective of a non-human, in a fashion similar to how a human might ask about a rock formation or an unusual species "what is that?" because he is a non-rock formation or a non-unusual specie. You have to be apart from the thing you seek to understand to use that line of questioning. You can't be the thing, or a part of the thing.
It's the point of view of a non-man or a non-three-dimensional being or an external reference framework such as a mirror. It's the only way to see it!
See Numbers 23:19 for further contribution.
