Plenty of blame to pass around
I remember being taught this story, every year, for the vast majority of my youth. Every time it was taught you could queue the jokes that you knew were bound to come about how the poor guy got blown out of paradise by a girl - and that Satan is such a snake...
In reading this passage with a critical eye for a recent bible study - it blew me away to see this passage in an entirely new light...
The serpent was simply a crafty (and talking) beast - never does it call him Satan or anything else related to the Devil....
Secondly, Eve took the fruit and then gave it to her Husband WHO WAS WITH HER.... Wow... I can't tell you how many times it was described to me as Eve taking the fruit to Adam, this Godly man just busy on his own naming animals...
This spoke to me so very much. Here is the first "wrong doing" on the part of man & woman - and they were together through the whole thing. They did it equally - together. Man wasn't tricked by woman - We as humanity (not as one gender or the other) chose to go against God...
How many of us out there have heard others describe it like I did as a child... How many people still feel that way? Isn't God beautiful - I love it when He shows me truth!
