Amanda's Verse of the Day - 10/27/2008
I was just reading a familiar verse and by looking at it a little closer, saw something new. (Ephesians 1:3) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. When we hear the word "blessings" we usually think of good stuff. As in if God has blessed us with blessings that means He has given us good stuff. And while that is true, this verse is saying more than that. The words "blessed" and "blessings" in this verse come from a root that means "fine speaking, elegance of language, commendation, adoration." The picture here is that God is speaking good things about us. Can you imagine Jesus sitting at the right hand of the Father saying good things about us? And what could be better or more powerful than the words out of the mouth of God? So if you are tempted to feel overwhelmed by your circumstances or just down on yourself, remember that Jesus is literally, right now speaking good things about you. Let's follow His example and speak His promises over ourselves and each other.
