"the whole counsel of God"
Acts 20:18 ASV and Acts 20:26-27 ASV
Paul could confidently say with a clear conscience that he was innocent of the blood of all men. Why? "For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God." Paul held nothing back. He didn't avoid difficult issues. He taught them ALL of God's word."My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment." - James 3:1
God holds those who teach His Word to a higher standard.
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. - 2 Timothy 2:15
In 2 Timothy 2:15, Paul exhorts young pastor Timothy to be diligent in his ministry, so he won't have to be ashamed because he has correctly taught God's word.
Wrong teaching is often the result of taking a verse or passage out of context. What is the proper context? The WHOLE Bible. ALL Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, - 2 Timothy 3:16
A simple way to ensure that you teach ALL of God's word is to do primarily expository Bible studies. Teach verse by verse through the Bible. ALL of it. Don't avoid the tough stuff or even the "boring" stuff. It's ALL profitable.
Topical sermons tend to start with a topic and then the preacher cherry-picks verses to back up his topic. Bible study software and websites have made this practice all too easy. You might be doing it right now!
When Jesus reinstated Peter, He exhorted him three times "feed my sheep". Stop preaching to the choir and start feeding your flock God's word. "that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Tim 3:14 When you feed the flock they will be healthy, equipped and ready to do God's work.
