Hanging out with the wrong crowd
Here Jesus is teaching again and he chooses Levi (also known as Matthew) to follow him. Levi was a tax collector. People in Jesus' time hated tax collectors. Tax collectors were viewed as people who had betrayed their people. So Jesus choosing Levi meant he choose someone everyone else hated.
Well Levi wanted to introduce Jesus to his friends, so he had a party and invited his friends and Jesus. Well the "teachers of the law" saw this they were pretty upset. You see they would never hang out with those people. They didn't consider them worth even speaking to. But Jesus told the teachers of the law that yes he cared about these people. In fact it was people like this that he came to save.
