This sounds like a pretty harsh statement by Jesus. But here is the truth of the matter. Obeying God is the highest priority in our lives. Now Jesus isn't saying his family is not important or that he doesn't care about them. What he is saying is that once you belong to God your family includes everyone who also belongs to God. So maybe your family is really messed up and crazy. Well once you belong to God, every other believer is in your family and should have your back. Pretty cool huh?
