My attempt to summarize and clearly restate the affirmations in 1Jn 1-2:

On 1Jn 1
* No one who continues to walk in darkness has fellowship with God (v.5).
* Any such person who claims such a relationship lies (v.6).
* Those who walk in the light (following Christ) have fellowship with each other and cleansing from sin (v.7).
* If we say we're not guilty of sin, we're self-deceived (v.8).
* If we admit we're guilty, Christ forgives and cleanses (v.9).
* If we continue to maintain our innocence, we're claiming that God is lying and it becomes clear that we do not understand His word (v.10).

On 1Jn 2
* Jesus is available as an advocate for anyone who sins (v.1).
* Jesus' sacrifice is sufficient to atone for our sins and those of the whole world (v.2).
* Our obedience is a confirmation of our relationship with God (v.3).
* Someone who claims a relationship with God but who isn't obedient is a liar (v.4).
* The life of someone who has a relationship with God ought to emulate the life Jesus lived (v.6).
* Someone who claims to be "in the light" but hates others in the church is really still in darkness (v.9) and is blinded (v.11).
* One who loves others in the church is living in the light and doesn't cause stumbling (v.10).
* "Children" should know that their sins are forgiven because of Jesus (v.12).
* "Fathers" should know that in knowing Christ, they know someone who has existed from the beginning (v.13).
* "Young people" should know that they have victory over the evil one (v.13).

... had to stop here for lack of time.
