2 Corinthians 9:8 ASV and 2 Corinthians 9:10-11 ASV

This passage falls in the context of Paul's message to the Corinthian church about their opportunity to bless and take care of the poorer churches that are in need.

Paul says some pretty heady stuff - God is able to bless abundantly. But not just that God is able, but that apparently He will act such that in all things, at all times, you will have everything you need. Verse 11 is the compelling claim that we will be given more than enough specifically so that we can be generous with others.

It echoes Isaiah 58, in that God's provision comes to those people who use it to serve and care for others. The difference is that here the order of things is reversed. In Isaiah, people who take care of the needs of others will receive what they need from God. Here, people receive what they need from God, so that they can be generous with others.

Sounds a lot like a promise - albeit conditional on the use. In this case we know that Paul's audience is not to Jews living under the covenant, but to followers of Jesus - so this gets much closer to a universal statement applicable to Christians today.
