Matthew 2:13 ASV

Herod was 1/2 Jewish but completely Roman. He was fearful of the prophecy in Micah 5:2 and that someone else might take his throne. History tells us that he had already killed one of his wives and her sons and some other sons for fear that they would succeed his throne. He was a ruthless man.

Interesting to me, the people of this day knew the significance of Jesus' birth. It caused great distress to Herod.

And what seemed like a terrible time, the murders of young and infant boys, was not a surprise to God. He knew it would happen. He appointed these souls for such a time, and they were ushered to His kingdom in celebration of His Son Jesus' life on earth. What we see as evil and heartbreaking is always in His plan....do I really believe it??
