It's interesting that, from the beginning, God has always intended to separate light from darkness (see verses 3-4 and 14-18). Not just in a physical sense but also spiritually. He always establishes the difference between the two and separates them. He has never wanted the light and the darkness to mix. Light should be bright, darkness should be dim. No in-betweens.
