THREE PHASES TOWARD THE SURRENDERED LIFE
1) YOU WANT WHAT YOU WANT, NOW.
Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian maidservant named Hagar; so she said to Abram, "The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my maidservant; perhaps I can build a family through her."
Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.
2) YOU WANT WHAT GOD WANTS, BUT.
Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." At this the man's face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.
WHAT “BUT” IS IN THE WAY OF GOD’S WILL?
They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him.
3) YOU WANT WHAT GOD WANTS, PERIOD.
Then [Jesus] said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
deny: arneomai (ar-neh'-om-ahee); to disavow, contradict, reject, abdicate, deny, refuse.
"My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
delight: `anag (aw-nag'); to become soft or pliable, delicate with enjoyment.
