What are we to draw from the fact that the first words of Jesus' ministry were to 'Repent.' This emphasis first struck me when reading Dallas Willard's 'The Divine Conspiracy' with his emphasis on The Kingdom of God.

Reading it again strikes me with the realization that I have drifted from repentance as a core aspect of my faith. Although I occasionally repent, a practice that I would like to integrate into my daily life would be to take time nightly and really reflect on the preceding day and repenting where need be. I'm not positive that this captures where Jesus is going with this, but it certainly challenges me .

Another thought...I tend to cringe at the idea of putting repentance at the front end of the message of Jesus. It seems offputting or legalistic. Jesus leads with it though. Without repentance the gospel's power is not realized. It is those with the greatest sins to confess that realize the fullness of what Jesus did for us on the cross. I want to know deeply the extent of his love so I want to learn how to repent and how to show others to repent.

I feel like there's so much more to think through with this sentiment, but can't gather it all at once. It struck a chord with me today though...if you see me ask if I am reflecting on my days and repenting...I'd appreciate it!

Maybe a post for another day will be figuring out what it means when Jesus says, '...for the Kingdom of God is near'!
