Matthew 2:2-10 ASV

I wonder how many times on their journey, these wise men stopped to ask themselves if they were even headed in the right direction? How many times did they feel like they took a wrong turn or feel they were in the wrong place? Their mission was to find the new born King of the Jews. Their sole intent was to worship Him. And now they were there - the right spot. They came at the right time. I wonder if they ever came close to giving up? The text in the New Living Translation says that they were filled with joy and The Message puts it as, "they could hardly contain themselves." Is it possible that they were amazed that they were actually there, that they had actually made it? Did they recognize something greater than themselves that brought them to just the right place at just the right time?

I think it's safe to say that, even though they were intelligent astrologers, they were brought to that place through God's own providence. I say that because later we read that God spoke to them about other things through dreams. There is no indication that this is a brand new experience for them. Ok so they were following the unique star, but was it that easy? I believe they were humble men who knew how to pay attention to God's perfect leading. This is a God thing not a "wise men" thing! He provided the star and He spoke through dreams. He led them to Jesus and did all this at just the right time and place so that Christ would be given glory and honour. This was not for them. It was for Christ. But it showed them how great God is.
