So I am reading through the daily reading tonight and I am struck by a scripture that I have read over hundreds of times. It came from Psalm 8:3-4: "When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers-the moon and the stars you set in place--WHAT ARE MERE MORTALS that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them."
I don't know about you, but most the time I think that I deserve God's love and thoughts and care. I get into this mindset of "God Owes Me Something." I think that just because I reach out to the lost or help a few homeless dudes or take my wife on a date night that God should be longing to smile down on me and want to care for me. However, David has the right perspective here. WHO ARE WE??? WHO AM I!!! Of all the species that God created, we are the ones that he thinks of, cares for, and loves. Today I was floored by how selfish I am. Thank you God for showing me that I am a mere mortal, a simple human being and out of everything created, you love me.
