Watching Over Me
We all shape our expressions of God through a frame of personal experience. We find it easy to praise God when things are going well, and harder when they are not. We find it easy to accuse someone of not having faith when they are struggling, and easy to applaud someone of great faith when they are succeeding.
This perception of blessing/cursing goes back as far as human history. Even in a verse like this, we see how our experiences frame our perception:
"I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the Lord was watching over me."
What if something had happened to David as he slept? Would that have meant God was not watching over him? That God had actually turned his back on David?
Why do I assume that when things are going well in my life, its because somehow my life and God's life are synced up, and when things are going wrong we aren't in sync? Why do I believe that my circumstance is a reflection of God's opinion or attitude towards me?
