God gave him another heart
Saul had just been anointed by Samuel, and given specific instructions of what would happen next. Just consider this; The donkeys of Saul's father were missing, and God took care of that. He was given specific details of who would say what, when and where. He then was directed to another place, to look for three specific men, carrying young goats, and another three men carrying bread that he would to receive. Then he should go to a hill and meet a group of prophets with musical instruments that will at that time be prophesying. At that specific moment the Spirit of the Lord will overtake him and he also would prophesy. And then he would become another man. After all this he had to wait seven days and make burnt offerings and peace offerings with Samuel. (vv 1-8)
You see, Saul went looking for donkeys, but God came to anoint him as king of Israel. He was to be the first king of Israel, so Samuel gave him these instructions that were truly extraordinary signs. In order to faithfully follow all of these instructions, Saul definitely needed another heart, and God knew that.
It is so wonderful how our lives are changed when we hear His voice, when we listen to his instruction through His word. If we listen carefully He will be showing us extraordinary signs every day, and instructing us the what, the where and the when. Do you need another heart? Take time to seek and to follow His instructions and inquire in God’s word. He may show you extraordinary signs. But if you listen carefully to his word, you will see that the most extraordinary sign of all is that he will give you another heart.
After reading this portion of the scripture, I had to pray, “Lord, give me today another heart”
Recently, some friends and I took some time to have lunch together. We gathered to talk about life and about how great things the Lord has done in our lives. It was a refreshing time.
When we were about to leave, this passage of the scripture came up. Our friend told us, "If you read carefully, you can understand that the Father had two lost sons, neither of them knew the Father". I had never heard this portion of scripture displayed that way. One son clearly had sinned and wasted all that he was entitled to, this was known to me. But the other that stood home did not enjoy the blessings of his Father. He simple did not knew his Father. He was at the home physically, but where was his heart?
This made me think profoundly. Do I really know you Lord? Have I spent enough time to seek you, to know you, to spend time refreshing my soul with your presence? Do I enjoy your blessings and pursue my full potential in your hands? Do I seek for you to do great things in me? We are so engulfed in many things daily, and it is easy to be entertained with the busyness of life, work and even in church.
Take time to seek Him in the morning, to know Him through His word, and to feast in His presence. Do you really know your Father?
