How do we lay up for ourselves treasures on this earth? We fret and worry. We pursue. We worship. We plan and strategize. We read articles and books on attaining wealth and building success. We invest our money. So when Jesus tells us, conversely, to lay up treasures in heaven, the implications are the same. We pursue. We meditate on the truth of the kingdom. We seek God. We set our heart each day. The sad thing is that our hearts go where our treasure lies, not the other way around. So if we pursue wealth and prosperity, our hearts will rest in that. But if we pursue God, our hearts will find its true home in God's presence and his truth.
