16:2 is a passage that almost perfectly sums up our right mindset as followers of Jesus. If we could set our minds fully on the fact that we have no good apart from Him, nothing else would hinder us. How beautiful, simple, and joyous a thought it is.

My need for more time spent on this focus already shows itself as I read 16:6. As I agree that "the lines have fallen for me in pleasant places," my thoughts first turn to my life circumstances, my job, my wife, our home, etc. Those things are certainly from the Lord and I am thankful for them, but this passage is so much deeper than that. My first thought needs to be Christ, that He is my beautiful inheritance. He has given me his redemption, his Spirit, his Life, and that is my portion, my pleasant place. All the rest follow after the gift of Jesus.
