Most of what I know about Noah's Ark I learned in Sunday School. I have always wondered why we love to tell the story of Noah's Ark to children, yet we attempt to censor them from many of the other stories on the basis of there is some content we do not deem appropriate. But as I read this passage today, I noticed some things I had not noticed before. First of all every man on the face of the earth was wicked. Every thought he had was evil, focused on himself and his own pleasure, instead of pleasing the God who created them. As a result, God sends a flood and destroy all that he has created. Yet, there is one beacon of light, Noah. The Lord was pleased with Noah. In addition, Noah walked with God. The desire of Noah's heart was to please God. And so God chooses to start over with Noah and his family. And then when God comes to Noah and tells him about His plans and the Ark He wants him to build, it is said of Noah, "Thus Noah did; according to all that had commanded him." Doing what God said was no menial, mundane task. Doing what God said was the desire of Noah's heart. And, thus he found favor in the eyes of the Lord. I wonder how well Noah was known amongst the people of his land. I wonder if men came by even before Noah began to build the ark and scoffed at Noah. I wonder if he was ridiculed for not living the way the rest of his culture lived. Regardless, I dont think Noah cared. I believe the true joy of his heart was to bring honor to God. I do not think Noah cared that his life didn't align with the culture, for I believe Noah knew that God was His Maker, His Lord, His King. Let me ask you do you care so much about what the culture thinks of you that you make the culture your Maker, Lord, and King. Or will you be a Noah in your generation. Maybe few will ever know your name, but you will have found favor in the eyes of the Lord, the one who holds the only opinion of eternal value, the only opinion that matters. May we live blameless lives amongst an evil and wicked culture! May the world know truly how much God is worth by the way we live our lives!
