i've always asked the question: can a christian be a pessimist? well, i don't know about that, but speaking realistically, God warns that the disciples that following him will not lead to happiness surrounded by a white picket fence. the real truth is that the road will be barefoot uphill both ways in the snow, so to speak... and there will always be times when we want to journey off on our own or stop and and have "me time" for a while. and that will not lead to happiness either, only the pursuit of and longing for. so whether we're on the right track, or have wandered our own way... sometimes life just sucks... call me pessimistic if you will, but i will not sit there and grouch about how much life sucks, it just does. what i must do is realize there are things more important, more wonderful, more unfathomable than life that drive me to serve where i am at, no matter how much life sucks...
