The Glory of God in the Face of Christ
Psalm 17:15 ASV, 2 Corinthians 4:4 ASV and 2 Corinthians 4:6 ASV
David outlines two portions both of which sound pleasing. He observes that God continues to "fill their womb with treasure; [that] they are satisfied with children, and [that] they leave their abundance to their infants". It would only seem right for David to be embittered about God's provision for his enemies, but instead he is captivated by the surpassing worth of what he, by God's grace beholds as his portion: "As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness". I get excited any time I see parallels between different areas of scripture. This passage called to mind a section of 2 Corinthians that is one of the most tangible descriptions of how it is we receive the gospel: "In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God... 6 For God, who said, Let light shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." This means that the face David beheld in righteousness was tthe face of Christ, and the likeness which satisfied David every morning was Jesus, the image of God. What David saw was the light of the gospel, which is the knowledge of the glory of God. In discovering the glory of God we need look no further than the gospel of Jesus Christ, shining into our hearts and revealing God's perfect righteousness to us, as just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Christ.
