Generosity
• YOU ARE CALLED TO GENEROSITY.
Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God… for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
1) GENEROUS PEOPLE START WITH THE TITHE.
A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.
• Maasar – tithe or 1/10.
Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, ‘How do we rob you?’ In tithes and offerings.
• TITHING SHOWS THAT I PUT GOD FIRST.
The purpose of tithing is to teach you always to put God first in your lives.
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.
• TITHING STRENGTHENS MY FAITH IN GOD.
Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.’
2) GENEROUS PEOPLE GIVE WILLINGLY.
Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability.
3) GENEROUS PEOPLE GIVE SACRIFICIALLY.
No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.
This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world…This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Questions for Reflection
• Would others characterize you as a generous person?
• Are you faithfully putting God first with the tithe?
• If not, are you ready to test God with the three month challenge?
• Is your heart becoming increasin
