At this point.....Jesus hadn't died on the cross yet!! The cross was for criminals. I bet the disciples thought Jesus was teaching something far beyond what they understood. However, you see that after Jesus died on the cross that they understood this passage. They understood it so much that they fulfilled the great commission with passion, endurance, and power of the Holy Spirit!
