Friendship With The World
Just because the "land" looks "well watered" doesn't mean that it is the best for you. Sometimes the land with seemingly less fertile ground is best suited for growth. Lot chose the land that LOOKED good. Abraham had to settle for the apparently inferior land. Yet, God was waiting to make a promise to Abraham and Lot suffered and lost much due to his close proximity to sin. (This, of course, is a worthy point in and of itself. Surely Lot knew of the reputation of Sodom's wickedness. But he didn't respect its evil. John warns us in 1 John 2:15-17 and 5:19 that the world is wicked and we should avoid it. James 4:4 tells us that friendship with the world is enmity with God.)
