Pious, self-sacrificial living is not required for savlation. Only faith is. This is why even the least in the kingdom are greater than John the Baptist. We don't have to compete with his lifestyle. Just his faith. (Of course, Christ-followers eventually learn that fully depending on Christ in our leaves often leaves us wearing animal skins and eating locusts and honey!)
