Obedient Servants get the Front Row
In this miracle, I observe the servants, the ones who just got ordered around by Jesus' mom, the ones who just had to deal with the six stone jars of water.... i notice that they obeyed Jesus precisely (don't think they had much choice in whether they obeyed or not, they were, after all servants). They obeyed him thoroughly (they didn't stop after filling their jars, but continued to respond to his requests) and they end up getting the "inside scoop" on he miracle He'd just performed. The grateful master of the feast, who was probably in trouble for miscalculating on the wine consumption, was oblivious to the miracle Jesus had just performed for him.... he just knew there was wine and it was the good stuff! BUT, I can see the sweaty servants who'd drawn the water with their eyes big as saucers. They new exactly what they'd put into those jars --- it was plain old H2O...not "the good wine." Application to my life: Where is Jesus directing me, specifically to obey? Could his direction be setting me up for a front row seat to His provision in someone's life? Could He be prompting me to obey so I can be "in the know" about His work? Good stuff to think on....
