Genesis 11:1 ASV, Genesis 11:2-3 ASV, Genesis 11:4-8 ASV and Genesis 11:9 ASV

In Malachi 1:11, God says, "My name will be great among the nations, from the rising of the sun to its setting. Incense and pure offerings will be presented in my name in every place because My name will be great among the nations," says the Lord of Hosts. This is no maybe statement! God is clear that His name, not ours will be great among the nations. Now, with that thought look at Genesis 11:4. The people want to make a name for themselves, so God comes down, confuses their languages and scatters them over the face of the earth in spite of their efforts. I see two points of importance. One, these people are alive because God chose to preserve their ancestors. In other words, all glory for there life and survival will go to God, not to some name they make for themselves. Secondly and maybe an even more profound point. God's plan from before time began was to make his name great among the nations. You may say that God seems egotistic and jealous. I say he is God and He deserve all glory. He crushed his own Son under the full measure of his wrath for you and me. He is the one we should desire. He is the one that deserves his name to be great among the nations. So on to my second point. God sets up what he predestined from before time began. The Lord confuses their languages and scatters them over the whole earth. Then we see Jesus say in Acts 1:8, "But you will recieve power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. And the 24 elders before God's throne sang a new song: You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals; because You were slaughtered and you redeemed a people for God by your blood from every tribe and language and people and nation. (Revelation 5:9). You see, it was according to God's eternal plan to scatter people over the entire globe that God might recieve glory from all people. Lets be clear, man may and may still want to make a name for himself, but God's name will be great among the nations. And if we think long and hard about the Gospel we will see that we want God's name to be great among the nations. He saved us!
