No Names for the Glory of God
When I read this passage this morning, I was struck by one verse. Nehemiah 3:20 says, After him, Baruch the son of Zabbai zealously repaired another section, from the Angle to the doorway of the house of Eliashib the high priest. Anyone ever heard of Baruch? I hadn't until now, but what is said of Baruch is really neat. He did not just do his job. He vigorously, with passion and careful urgency did his job. And then I thought to myself, the only thing we know about his life is that he was involved in rebuilding the wall. Sounds boring! I mean no one says i want to be a Baruch. We all want to be Paul or Peter. But what I see and I have only inferred this, but I believe it to be true. Baruch's ambition was not that he be known, but that God be honored through the wall being rebuilt. After all that was what God wanted them to do. That's not boring that is the most worthy, enthralling ambition. That is to please God in every arena of your life, even the seemingly, most mundane of tasks like building a wall. To obey God and do what he says. What is your ambition? Do you know what God wants you to do? And will it ring into and throughout eternity? Will you be a no name for the Glory of God? Will you live in such a way that God is honored and pleased in every arena of your life? The way to do this is to know God's Word and to live according to it.
