Jesus seems to be getting at motivation. What is your motivation behind your righteousness, giving, praying? That is the sheer beauty of the sermon on the mount and Jesus' ministry. Who gives a rip what you do. The better question is not what, but why do you do it? Why is at the heart of what you do.
