This continues the motif of motive. This time it's money. I used to think that you could serve God and money. But what I think Jesus is getting at is that one will dominate your life and your plans. When you plan your life, what is the ultimate driver?

Most of the time when we think of planning our lives, it tends to be around money. I want to go to college to make money. We spend all our school days preparing to make money. We make money to prepare us for retirement. So when we define our plans and future it based on money.

The beginning point is what do you want me to do with my life God? Where do you wnat me to go? How do you want me to live my life? How can I maximize my short-term investment on this earth to maximize my long term investment in eternity?

I don't think the starting point from what Jesus is saying is "I need money to go to college, to have a family, to retire, so now how do I live my life to maximize that and give some back to God if I have the extra time and money." That shows what's motivating and has your heart.
