On the heals of chapter 7 where Jesus finishes the sermon on the mount with a picture of people who trust in his teachings are people who are like those who build on a great foundation and so aren't hindered by a storm, here he is in a storm.

You don't think he's going to teach something verbally and let it go? It's time to get out of the classroom and have some practical theology lessons for his guys. This storm must be pretty bad to spook a bunch of lifelong fishermen. Oddly it's the carpenter that's asleep and at peace.

The guys yell at him as they fear the storm. Jesus rebukes them and the storm. In the classroom it was about trusting his teachings, now he shows that they can trust in him and his ability.
