I think too many times we read Scripture and feel that Christ was above feeling what we feel because He was the Son of God. Matthew 4:1-2 is great proof that he struggled with everything we do. How many times have I fasted expecting some kind of "burning bush" experience...only to feel nothing but physical hunger. When i read about Christ fasting I also think that He never tasted hunger during it...only rich, deep quality time with the Father. This set of passages remind me that He was indeed hungry...and was indeed a difficult time of fasting. No real "burning bush" experience here...just a struggle with hunger and the Devil.
