John 19:25 ASV, John 19:26 ASV and John 19:27 ASV

It seems that so far the theme of the week for me is "comfort" ...

It must have been comforting for Jesus to see Mary and John in the crowd as he was dying. Since John and Jesus were so close John would have already been like a son to Mary. It seemed only natural for Jesus to give them that kind of relationship as he was dying. The two would be deeply grieving for Jesus. They would not have to grieve alone. (They wouldn't have to grieve for long either).

This is another example that God will give those he loves someone to walk along side of them in even the most difficult of situations.
