This is such a contrarian prescription for living - the world would have us delight in the desires of our heart. David's instruction is to delight, to take great pleasure, in the Lord. This requires focus on the Lord, and getting to know Him. This focus will change our heart and its desire to be aligned with what is best for us, as God has made us.
