John 21:2-3 ASV

Q- What do you typically do when time is hanging heavy, spiritually speaking - when you are in that antsy, uncomfortable gap between asking for guidance and receiving direction?
A---- Me, I put it aside. It seems that God has this 3-day thing when I pour out my heart to him and ask for guidance. The solution is not always clearly spelled out, but I can sense some sort of an answer. Or, if I've forgotten all about the issue, the issue was probably not that huge in the first place.

Q --- The disciples found themselves in this same kind of "what do we do now? spiritual limbo. What do you make of their decision to go fishing?
A--- With Peter it sounds like "I don't know what to do, so I'll do what I know ... I know how to fish ..." Fishing is where Jesus first found Peter, and fishing is where Jesus found him again. (But that's not saying that I ever want to go back to where I was before Jesus found me!) For John, having "grown up" in fishing, it was something comforting for him to do; something stress-relieving. Seven buddies on a fishing boat at night, wondering how they fit in to Jesus' life (Jesus was not on the boat with them). There was probably more conversation than fishing going on. No wonder they hadn't caught anything!
