Jesus makes it pretty clear that it will be completely obvious when He returns. It won't be in secret, so if someone says he came back he's a big fat liar. Don't believe him. But when he comes back no one really knows. Just like we know that after fall comes winter, there will be signs leading up to his return, but when he does, it's too late, it's judgment time.
