1 Chron. 16:10 - "Glory in his holy name"
Stop for a moment and listen. What do you hear? Right now as I sit in my office I think it is quiet, but when I really listen I hear the hum of the fan in my computer, I hear the giggling of children from our church daycare downstairs, I hear other co-workers fumbling around in their offices and our lead pastor talking in the hall about the printer there to our accountant. Okay, so it isn't really that quiet.
But how often do we quiet ourselves to "glory in his holy name"? How often do you just stop and go to a quiet place to hang out with God and think about how incredible He is? And not just "think" about Him, but "glory" in His name. I know I don't but wish I would more.
So, what does it look like to "glory in his holy name"? Well, to start we must understand what to "glory" in something means. Here the Hebrew word means to make whatever the object is "shine" or to "boast" about it. Here we see maybe the "glory" part is not found when we are trying to be quiet before God but after we have met with him. Our time with Him should make us want to "glory" in him. We "glory" in his name because we have experienced him.
Many people have asked me, so how should I read my Bible. And this verse I think helps us out. I think we should read until we want to "glory" in his name. Now we should find ourselves reading the whole Bible, but I think we should read things that cause us to "glory" in him and change to something else if it not. In my life, I have found that I "glory" in him the most in my reading when I listen to where he would have me read in his word. Personally, I wouldn't be reading in 1 Chronicles, but I feel God wants me to be reading the Old Testament right now.
In my case, I read his word until I feel a song coming on or I just need to sing. I think if anything is taking "glory in holy name" it is that. So, experience him, shine before others and glory in his holy name.
