Matthew 23:8-12 ASV

This is a challenging word. In my Christian walk there has been a lot of talk about leadership training and the value of good leadership in the church. On one hand I think this is very valuable and desire to exemplify this myself. On the other hand there seems to be a psychological residue (conscience or sub-consceince) that says becoming a good leader is synonomous with being a good Christian. People are valued as leaders because of our desire for a leader, someone that we can see and touch and have a tangible relationship with. It feels good to be accepted by people as a leader and the desire for this can be srtong...for me anyway. But what does Christ value? He desires followers that are gathered around His leadership. Christ as the head not human institutions. Humility can be difficult in this leadership saturated culture but in time if we humble ourselves we will be exalted, not by men but by Christ, free from the intense desire for the approval of people.
